WRIST/HAND PAIN

INTRODUCTION

With more hours and usage of computers and cellphones- the incidence of wrist and hand pain has increased threefold. This pain is a result of improper function and overuse of ligaments and muscles in the wrist and the hand. At MPT&Rehab we offer non-surgical options for effectively and safely managing your wrist and hand pain. You will be given a customized treatment plan which will aim to get you back to the level of activity and the lifestyle that you are accustomed to without having to deal with your pain. We will show you how to become pain free, fix the cause, and eliminate your symptoms.

Dr. Patel and Dr. Hanna together provide a very specific, individualized and comprehensive approach which will determine the exact cause of the pain and treat it as such.

SYMPTOMS

Wrist and hand pain can be very painful and sharp and achy in nature. Many times patients also have neurological signs that result in numbness and tingling in to the hand and/or wrist region. At MPT&Rehab we believe the wrist and hand pain is caused and originated due to a lack of function- causing instability, pain, and discomfort to the region.

CAUSES

There are many different causes of wrist and hand pain. It can be due to a functional or structural disorder; for example trauma, improper development, muscle spasms, muscle weakness, working posture and arthritis. Other causes include but are not limited to:

  • Developmental dysfunctions
  • Developmental imbalance with muscles
  • Muscular strains
  • Ligamentous sprains
  • Poor ergonomics

DIAGNOSIS

At MPT&Rehab the doctor will begin with a comprehensive examination- which will address the onset, cause, duration, severity, vectors, establish the meaningful task and functional tasks that cause the wrist and hand pain. At this point the cause of the pain will be determined; however diagnostic ultrasonography or an MRI are also very accurate and preferred in determining the stage and extent of wrist and hand discomfort- if needed will be carried out.

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
